Taiwan Detects 19 PLA Aircraft Sorties, 17 Crossing into Northern/Southwestern/Eastern ADIZ

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense detected 19 PLA aircraft sorties, 8 PLAN vessels and 2 official ships operating around Taiwan in the 24 hours to 6 a.m. (UTC+8) September 17, 2026; 17 of the 19 sorties crossed the Taiwan Strait median line, entering the northern, southwestern and eastern ADIZ sectors. Taiwan's armed forces responded with CAP aircraft, navy ships and coastal missile systems. The tally continues the sharp escalation that began after the Sept 16 opening day of Taiwan's own Jioupeng Base precision-strike live-fire drill, more than doubling the Sept 15 count and coinciding with the drill's second day, which tested long-range strike capability and new air-defense weapons.
