Taiwan Navy and Coast Guard Hold First-Ever Joint Anti-Blockade Drill

As the closing exercise of the Han Kuang 42 cycle, Taiwan's Navy and Coast Guard completed their first-ever joint anti-blockade drill on August 14, 2026, escorting a simulated merchant vessel carrying essential supplies to eastern Taiwan under a 2nd Combat Theater Command scenario in which enemy forces infiltrate a port to disrupt the delivery. A Yushan-class landing platform dock played the role of the merchant ship approaching from waters off Taiwan's east coast; the Navy dispatched a surface action group and light surface forces to escort it, while Coast Guard patrol vessels and CM21 armored vehicles helped secure the transfer of supplies, which were offloaded at Hualien Port and Suao Port using civilian cranes and flatbed trucks alongside military logistics assets. The drill was designed to test inter-agency coordination for keeping wartime supplies flowing to Taiwan's east coast under a blockade scenario reminiscent of China's August 2022 encirclement exercises.
