PLA ADIZ Activity Spikes to 18 Sorties, 15 Crossing Median Line, on Han Kuang 42's Final Day

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense detected 18 PLA aircraft sorties, 11 PLAN vessels and 3 official ships operating around Taiwan in the 24-hour window ending 06:00 (UTC+8) on August 13, 2026 — the sharpest single-day jump since the August 8 spike of 14 sorties. Fifteen of the 18 sorties crossed the Taiwan Strait median line, entering the northern, central, southwestern and eastern sectors of Taiwan's ADIZ simultaneously. The surge came on the penultimate day of Taiwan's Han Kuang 42 live-fire exercise (concluding August 14) and the same day Taiwan held its Taipei-area urban resilience/mobile-internet-slowdown drill, and followed China's condemned joint naval exercise with Indonesia east of Taiwan on August 12.
