At Least 14 Killed in Weapons Depot Explosion Near Sarmada, Idlib

| Syria

A temporary Defence Ministry depot storing weapons and remnants of war exploded on September 9, 2026 in Burj al-Nimra village near Sarmada in Idlib province, killing at least 14 people and wounding 11, according to Syrian state television. The cause was not determined; secondary explosions hampered rescue efforts and left some victims unreachable at the scene, and some of the wounded were Defence Ministry personnel. It was the second deadly ordnance blast in Idlib in a week, after a munitions-laden vehicle exploded in Binnish on September 1, killing five.
