Second Alawite Family Attacked in Homs Within a Week; Mother Killed

Gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire with silenced pistols on a family on Tawil Street in the Alawite-majority Wadi al-Dahab neighborhood of Homs just after midnight on July 27, 2026, killing Yumna al-Halaq, 41, and seriously wounding her 13-year-old son Zein Ibrahim. It was the second fatal drive-by shooting targeting an Alawite family in Homs within nine days, following the July 18 killing of a mother and two children in the nearby Al-Sabeel neighborhood, deepening fears of a sustained sectarian-violence campaign in the city.
