Car Bomb Explosion in Damascus Kills at Least One Person
A vehicle-borne explosion in Damascus killed at least one person, according to reports from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) and local monitors. The attack occurred amid ongoing instability in the capital as security forces of the transitional government continue to establish control. Separately, Internal Security Forces blocked a protest by makeshift oil refinery owners in Aleppo from marching on Saadallah Al-Jabiri Square. The Aleppo protest reflects growing economic grievances among informal-sector workers whose livelihoods are under threat from regulatory changes as the transitional government attempts to formalize Syria's chaotic wartime economy. Isolated bombings and security incidents remain a feature of the transition period despite the absence of large-scale military operations.
