NOAA CPC: 69% Chance of Historic El Niño Event

NOAA's Climate Prediction Center reported a 69% chance that the October-December 2026 El Niño event would exceed the strength of every event in the historical record dating back to 1950, based on Niño 3.4 anomalies and subsurface heat content tracking above the 1997-98 and 2015-16 reference events.
