Forecasters Warn Super El Niño Could Exceed Earlier Projections

CNN reported that meteorologists who had already flagged this El Niño as intense were revising projections upward, citing faster-than-expected Niño 3.4 warming and subsurface heat content running ahead of the 1997-98 and 2015-16 reference events at the same point in their evolution.
