FAA Documents Reveal SpaceX 'Starfall' Reentry Vehicle Program — Point-to-Point Cargo Delivery Up to 1,000 kg, Falcon 9 or Starship Launch
FAA environmental assessment documents published in early June 2026 reveal a previously undisclosed SpaceX program called 'Starfall' — a reusable reentry vehicle designed for point-to-point cargo delivery via space and commercial in-space manufacturing. The FAA issued a Record of Decision approving Starfall test flights with no significant environmental impact, following an environmental assessment first approved May 15, 2026 and covered by space media on June 1. Key specifications: up to 1,000 kilograms payload capacity, launching on either Falcon 9 or Starship, with two approved Pacific Ocean reentry zones approximately 1,300 km off the California and Mexico coasts. Starfall represents SpaceX's entry into the rapid cargo-delivery and in-space manufacturing markets, potentially enabling suborbital or orbital flights that deliver freight anywhere on Earth in under 90 minutes. SpaceX had not publicly announced the Starfall program prior to the FAA environmental documents. The program expands SpaceX's product portfolio alongside Starlink internet, Dragon resupply, and Starship deep space operations — and the FAA approval arrives just three days before the IPO management roadshow begins (June 4). The revelation adds another high-value segment narrative ahead of the Nasdaq (SPCX) debut on June 12.
