AMOS-6 Pad Explosion — SLC-40 Destroyed

| SpaceX

During a routine pre-launch static fire at SLC-40, the Falcon 9 second stage exploded in 93 milliseconds, destroying the vehicle, the $300M AMOS-6 satellite, and severely damaging SLC-40. Investigation found a COPV helium pressure vessel failure. SpaceX was grounded four months and had to conduct all missions from LC-39A during SLC-40's year-long reconstruction.
