Seoul High Court Increases Yoon Suk-yeol's Obstruction Sentence to 7 Years
The Seoul High Court increased former President Yoon Suk-yeol's obstruction-of-justice sentence from 5 to 7 years on appeal, reversing a lower-court acquittal on counts related to staging a simulated Cabinet meeting before his December 2024 martial law declaration. The appellate ruling is separate from Yoon's February 2026 life sentence for insurrection. Yoon's defense attorneys announced they would appeal to the Supreme Court. The decision represents the continued judicial reckoning with South Korea's worst constitutional crisis since democratization in 1987.
