NISA Kills Al-Shabaab Clan-Affairs Commander and Three Fighters in Middle Shabelle Raid

Somalia's National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), working with international partners, killed four Al-Shabaab members and wounded a fifth in operations reported September 21, 2026 in the Guulane and Al-Furqaan areas of Middle Shabelle region, striking after the group's leaders left a meeting in Guulane. Among the dead was Omar Siyaad Caraaye, whom NISA identified as an Al-Shabaab commander responsible for the group's clan affairs in Middle Shabelle — duties including dispute settlement, tax collection and adjudication of family matters; two motorcycle drivers transporting the militant leaders and a guard accompanying them were also killed. A second clan-affairs commander, Abdi Mohamed Nur, was wounded, while two other militants, Abdullahi Ali Caraaye and Abdi Daalane, escaped. NISA said the operation was 'part of continuing efforts to target al-Shabab leaders and networks and weaken the group's ability to recruit, organize and carry out attacks.' The method of the strike (air or ground) was not disclosed.
