60 Somali MPs File No-Confidence Motion Against Interior Minister Ali Yusuf Hosh

| Somalia

Sixty members of Somalia's House of the People submitted a motion of no confidence against Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation Minister Ali Yusuf Ali (Hosh) on September 1, 2026 — the first such motion since parliament elected a new speaker several weeks earlier. MP Abdirahman Cagaweyne, speaking on behalf of the lawmakers, accused Hosh of replacing officially recognized traditional elders with newly appointed figures (raising concerns about the legitimacy of traditional representation) and of failing to properly carry out his ministerial duties. The motion was formally received by Speaker Abdiqadir Mohamed Nur Jama and represents one of the first major parliamentary challenges facing the new House leadership, potentially testing relations between parliament and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre's government.
