WFP: Only 450,000 Reached as 2 Million Enter IPC Phase 4 Emergency, Nutrition Crisis Deepens
The World Food Programme reported it was reaching only 450,000 people with food aid — down sharply from 2.2 million in early 2025 — as 2 million Somalis entered IPC Phase 4 (Emergency) food insecurity, double the prior year's figure. WFP said 1.9 million children faced acute malnutrition and 76% of the IPC-4 population had no assistance pipeline through August. Nearly 40% of children under five in Burhakaba district faced acute malnutrition or worse, with famine risk flagged there specifically, while 60% of households nationally could not meet basic needs, up from 47% in 2025.
