AUSSOM Sector 1 Troops Distribute Food and Medicine to Mubarak Residents

| Somalia

AUSSOM (AU Mission in Somalia) Sector 1 troops — led by the Uganda People's Defence Force — conducted a humanitarian assistance operation in Mubarak, Lower Shabelle on April 14, 2026, distributing food and medicine to local residents. Mubarak was recaptured from Al-Shabaab during Operation Rolling Thunder / Hilaac (February–March 2026) and has since become a critical forward position for consolidating gains in the Lower Shabelle corridor. The humanitarian outreach is part of a deliberate AUSSOM strategy to rebuild civilian confidence in liberated areas and reduce Al-Shabaab's ability to re-infiltrate through community grievance. SNA and AUSSOM troops repelled a major Al-Shabaab assault on Mubarak on March 26, killing 40 militants, underscoring the town's strategic importance. AUSSOM Sector 1 has also been conducting healthcare training for Somali medical personnel as part of capacity-building efforts in stabilized areas.
