Day 706 — Sheinbaum Calls Fox a 'Traitor to Democracy' Over Alito Moreno Meeting, Pledges No New Taxes in 2027 Economic Package
On September 7, 2026 (Day 706, Monday), back at the National Palace after her ten-state Second Government Report tour, President Sheinbaum sharpened her earlier criticism of the September 4 meeting between former president Vicente Fox and PRI national leader Alejandro "Alito" Moreno, mocking it as "the new vision of Mexican politics" and saying it would not go well for them. She called Fox a "traitor to democracy... seen by all Mexicans, first for the desafuero [2004 attempt to bar AMLO from the presidential race] and then for the 2006 electoral fraud," and accused PAN's younger leadership of ties to real-estate corruption scandals, arguing neither PRI nor PAN reaches double digits in support. Separately, ahead of the September 8 delivery of the 2027 Economic Package to Congress, Sheinbaum reiterated "no ha habido un aumento de impuestos ni va a haber" (there has not been a tax increase, nor will there be), saying additional revenue will come from combating tax evasion and shell companies used for false invoicing rather than new levies or new social programs, while keeping austerity in senior government salaries to fund existing welfare spending.
