Day 677 — First National Reforestation Day: 235,000 Volunteers Plant 6.6 Million Trees Nationwide

On August 9, 2026 (Day 677, Sunday), Mexico held its first National Reforestation Day, an initiative proposed by President Sheinbaum calling for 'setting aside one day a year when we all engage in reforesting.' Approximately 235,000 volunteers across the country participated in coordinated plantings, putting an estimated 6.6 million trees and plants into the ground in a single day. The event forms part of a longer-term government goal to reforest and conserve 1.5 billion plants and trees nationwide by 2030, building on the Sembrando Vida program inherited from the AMLO administration.
