Sheinbaum Names Ingrid Gómez Saracibar as New Secretary of Women at April 22 Mañanera
At her April 22 morning press conference (mañanera), President Claudia Sheinbaum formally presented Ingrid Gómez Saracibar as the new head of the Secretaría de las Mujeres, replacing Citlalli Hernández Mora who departed April 14–16 to lead Morena's National Elections Commission ahead of the 2027 midterm cycle. Gómez Saracibar, a psychologist with over 15 years of public administration experience in gender violence prevention, had served as Subsecretaria del Derecho a una Vida Libre de Violencias at the federal Secretaría de las Mujeres, and previously ran Mexico City's Secretaría de las Mujeres (SEMUJERES) in 2019–2024 under Sheinbaum when she was head of government for the capital — making her a close Sheinbaum ally with deep institutional knowledge. Sheinbaum emphasized continuity with the secretariat's two flagship achievements under Hernández: the constitutional mandate establishing the Secretariat of Women and the April 14 Senate approval of a uniform national femicide standard, which Gómez Saracibar had helped design. The appointment maintains the cabinet's inner circle without adding new ideological vectors. Critics noted the appointment was internal to the Secretaría hierarchy rather than bringing in an external feminist voice, a choice that drew some pushback from civil society groups who had called for a more independent figure with grassroots feminist movement ties. Gómez Saracibar's formal takeover was scheduled for April 23.
