Mexico Measles Outbreak: 17.2 Million Vaccines Administered; 14,869 Confirmed Cases, 35 Deaths
At her Tuesday mañanera, President Sheinbaum provided an update on Mexico's ongoing measles outbreak, which began in February 2025. As of March 31, 2026: 17.2 million vaccines have been administered nationally, 14,869 cases confirmed across 457 municipalities, and 35 deaths recorded. The government is targeting full vaccination coverage and reports 97%+ medicine supply rates across IMSS, IMSS-Bienestar, and ISSSTE. Health Secretary Kershenobich has described the outbreak as contained but not yet eliminated, with unvaccinated rural communities remaining the primary transmission vector. The government also confirmed a Río Sonora remediation settlement: Grupo México deposited 1.559 billion pesos into the remediation fund, bringing the total to 2.222 billion pesos from federal, state, and labor tribunal contributions.
