Reconfigured Supreme Court Takes Office with Nine Justices, Down from Eleven
The constitutionally redesigned Supreme Court (SCJN) was inaugurated with nine justices, reduced from eleven seats under the 2024 judicial reform. Three returning justices were joined by six newly elected ones, all perceived as aligned with Morena. Critics noted the loss of the full court's institutional independence, while the government hailed it as democratized justice.
