WTC Health Program Denies Adding Peripheral Neuropathy as Covered Condition
The World Trade Center Health Program administrator formally denied petitions 032, 033, and 068 seeking to add peripheral neuropathy as a WTC-certified condition, finding insufficient scientific evidence of a causal link to Ground Zero toxic exposures. The ruling was published in the Federal Register. The denial follows a similar March 19, 2026 rejection for Anti-GBM Glomerulonephritis. First responder advocates and medical researchers have continued to press for expanded coverage as new health conditions linked to toxic dust exposure continue to emerge among the program's 140,000+ enrollees more than two decades after the attacks. Over 9,000 individuals have now died from 9/11-related illnesses — nearly three times the 2,977 killed on September 11 itself.
