Saudi-Led Coalition Strikes Houthi-Held Hodeidah After Tanker Attack

The Saudi-led coalition struck Houthi military sites in Yemen's Hodeidah governorate and telecommunications-authority facilities in Kamaran, a day after Houthis claimed responsibility for attacks on two Saudi-flagged vessels in the Red Sea, including the tanker NCC Masa, which sustained minor hull damage but continued its voyage. Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki called the Houthi attacks 'cowardly and reckless' and pledged continued operational action; a coalition spokesman said Hodeidah port itself was not targeted and Yemeni ports remained open. The Houthi foreign ministry warned the strikes would 'prove costly' for Riyadh. The exchange followed the Houthis' July 20 blockade declaration and their claimed ending of the informal 2022 truce.
