Israel's National Security Council Warns Third October 7 Anniversary Raises Overseas Attack Risk

Israel's National Security Council (NSC) issued a warning Sunday, September 6, 2026, ahead of the Jewish High Holidays, that terrorist organizations and individual attackers continue seeking to target Israelis and Jews worldwide, and that October 2026 — marking the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attack — is a 'particularly sensitive period' that could see large-scale protests, some of which may turn violent, and heightened attempts at attacks. The NSC named Iran and its proxies as the primary global threat and said Hamas is 'investing significant resources in establishing terrorist infrastructure in Europe,' while also flagging a rise in lone-wolf attacks driven by online radicalization. The council said 25 Israelis and Jews have been killed in attacks abroad since the war began, and advised against travel to Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, Sinai-area Egypt, Jordan, and Somaliland, urging travelers elsewhere to avoid displaying Israeli or Jewish symbols and limit speaking Hebrew in public in higher-risk countries.
