Rafah Crossing Reopens for Limited Medical Evacuations

| October 7

The Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt reopened on March 19–22, 2026, for limited medical evacuations and returns to Gaza. The crossing, closed for extended periods during the conflict, was opened under Egyptian and Qatari mediation as part of Phase One ceasefire commitments. Medical staff and critically injured Palestinians were evacuated. Humanitarian organizations warned that the limited access remained insufficient to address the acute needs of Gaza's 2.3 million population, and that full reconstruction funding — estimated at $50+ billion by the UN — remained almost entirely unpledged.
