Mass School Abductions in Borno and Oyo: 88+ Seized in Single Day
In dual mass abductions on May 15, armed groups seized students and teachers across two states simultaneously. In Askira-Uba LGA, Borno State, Boko Haram gunmen invaded the Primary and Junior Government Day Secondary School in Mussa-Biri community, abducting an estimated 42–82 students and teachers according to various tallies (Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume confirmed 42; Amnesty International cited up to 82). Separately, in Oriire LGA, Oyo State, bandits simultaneously attacked three schools — Baptist Nursery and Primary School (Yawota), Community High School (Ahoro-Esinele), and L.A. Primary School (Esiele) — seizing 46 persons (7 teachers and 39 students), killing an assistant headmaster and an okada rider, and wounding two Amotekun Corps operatives. Amnesty International stated at least 82 schoolchildren were abducted across the two states between May 13–15, calling it a wave of terror against Nigeria's education sector.
