Canadian Intern Arrested on Espionage Charges at NATO's SHAPE Headquarters

Belgian federal prosecutors arrested a Canadian woman of Chinese origin — later identified in reporting as systems engineer Biwei Zhang, a former Canadian Space Agency and Statistics Canada contractor — at NATO's Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, Belgium, on July 25, 2026. She is suspected of spying on behalf of a third, undisclosed country and of membership in a criminal organization. Belgian authorities searched her home and workplace.
