PM Munteanu Resigns, Collapsing Pro-EU Coalition Government
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, in office since November 2025, resigned on July 3, automatically triggering the government's collapse under Moldovan parliamentary procedure. He cited only that he could "no longer exercise my mandate in accordance with my principles and beliefs," without stating a specific cause. The resignation followed mounting pressure from a RISE Moldova investigation into the state-owned company MoldATSA, which found Anastasia Taburceanu — a cousin of President Maia Sandu — was paid roughly EUR 50,000 in under a year as company spokesperson, about eight times the average Moldovan salary. Sandu began consultations with parliamentary groups to nominate a successor.
