Drug Rehabilitation Center Massacre in Culiacán — 8 Killed by Chapitos Gunmen

Eight people were killed at a drug rehabilitation center in Culiacán in early April 2026 when armed attackers, identified by authorities as Chapitos-affiliated gunmen, stormed the facility searching for a La Mayiza rival who they believed was receiving treatment there. The attack is consistent with a pattern of Chapitos targeting civilian infrastructure to hunt La Mayiza operatives and sympathizers. Rehabilitation centers have been repeatedly hit in Culiacán throughout the cartel civil war, as both factions use the facilities to pursue enemies who seek cover among civilian patients. The attack occurred despite the active Semana Santa security deployments launched on March 29. SSPC confirmed the incident and launched an investigation.
