Battle of Resaca de la Palma — Mexicans Routed

| Mexico-US Wars

The day after Palo Alto, Taylor pursued Arista's retreating army into the dense chaparral brush near Resaca de la Palma. In close-quarters fighting the Mexicans were routed; Arista's army broke and fled across the Rio Grande in disarray, abandoning artillery, supplies, and their wounded. US forces captured General La Vega. Total Mexican casualties were approximately 547 killed or wounded; American losses were 122. General Taylor was hailed as 'Old Rough and Ready.'
