'El R-1' (Los Rs Cell Leader) Arrested — Linked to Valeria Márquez Femicide and Mayor Carlos Manzo Assassination

Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala ('El R-1'), leader of 'Los Rs,' a CJNG-linked armed cell operating across Jalisco and Michoacán, was captured July 30, 2026 during a federal special-forces operation in Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco, following a brief armed confrontation in which one associate was killed. Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch stated investigators believe Álvarez Ayala ordered the May 2025 livestreamed femicide of TikTok influencer Valeria Márquez at the request of his son Francisco, who had dated and repeatedly threatened her. Authorities separately allege Álvarez Ayala financed and ordered the November 2025 assassination of Uruapan, Michoacán Mayor Carlos Manzo, an outspoken organized-crime critic — a case that had already led to 31 prior arrests.
