Operativo Enjambre: Five Chavinda, Michoacán Municipal Officials Arrested for CJNG Ties
Five municipal government officials from Chavinda, Michoacán — reportedly connected to the Movimiento Ciudadano political party — were arrested on suspicion of nexos (links) to CJNG. During the Operativo Enjambre raids, authorities seized a tracked vehicle, conventional firearms, narcotics, and items bearing CJNG insignia from locations associated with the suspects, as well as official municipal government documents. Among the materials seized: tactical leg armor, a retractable baton, and internal government files. The arrests illustrate CJNG's systematic penetration of local political and administrative structures in Michoacán — a state it has contested with Los Viagras and La Nueva Familia Michoacana. Michoacán's importance to CJNG is economic: control of the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas and Tierra Caliente's avocado and lime extortion rackets provide hundreds of millions in annual revenue. The infiltration of municipal offices enables CJNG to pre-empt law enforcement operations, manage vehicle movement, and protect logistics corridors. The Chavinda arrests are part of a wider pattern of post-Mencho institutional cleanup operations.
