Israeli Strike on Vehicle Kills Father and 8-Year-Old Daughter in Western Gaza City; Two More Killed Elsewhere
An Israeli strike on a vehicle in western Gaza City on Sunday, September 6, 2026 killed Youssef Akila and his 8-year-old daughter Wafaa and wounded six others, according to Mohamed Abu Selmia, director of Al-Shifa Hospital. An Israeli military spokesperson said forces had targeted a Hamas militant and were still assessing the strike's results. Separately the same day, a strike near a Gaza City telecommunications facility killed a man, and an Israeli tank fired on a school sheltering displaced families, killing a 3-year-old boy. The October 2025 US-backed ceasefire has curtailed major combat but not Israeli strikes, which the military says target Hamas and other militants; Gaza health authorities say more than 1,300 Palestinians (1,344 per the most recent count) have been killed since the ceasefire took effect, against four Israeli soldiers.
