Israeli Strikes Kill 5 Across Gaza, Including Three Members of Abdeen Family North of Khan Younis
Early Friday morning, August 28, 2026, Israeli strikes killed at least five Palestinians in three separate incidents across Gaza. A drone strike on a group of people north of Khan Younis in southern Gaza killed three members of the Abdeen family; their bodies were taken to Nasser Medical Complex. In Gaza City's Sabra neighborhood, a drone fired a missile at a group of civilians, killing a man identified by Palestinian sources as Hassan al-Deiri, whose body was taken to al-Shifa Hospital — the IDF separately said it had killed a Hamas sniper it named as Hassan Zidan Hassan Deiri, along with a Hamas company commander, Hani Abd al-Hai Fakhri Mazloum, in northern Gaza operations the same day, alleging both were involved in weapons trafficking and 'advancing attacks on troops and civilians.' A third strike hit a displaced-persons tent in the Mashahra area east of Gaza City, killing one more person and wounding several others. The strikes came alongside the Jenin killings in the West Bank the same day and as UN data showed 46% of surveyed Gaza residents reported going to bed hungry at least once in the previous month, despite the October 2025 ceasefire.
