Israeli Airstrike Kills Family of Three Including 6-Month-Old Infant in Nuseirat Refugee Camp
An Israeli air raid struck an apartment building in Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza in the early morning hours of May 24, 2026, killing three members of a single family: Mohammad Abu Mallouh (father), Alaa Zaqlan (mother), and their 6-month-old infant son Osama. Approximately 10 additional people were wounded in the strike. Bodies and wounded were transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah. The Nuseirat camp is one of the original 1948 refugee camps, originally housing Palestinians displaced during the Nakba, now among the most densely populated areas of central Gaza. The strike continues the pattern documented by the UN Security Council of near-daily Israeli operations inside Gaza under the October 2025 ceasefire — with the post-ceasefire Palestinian death toll now exceeding 940+. The killing of an infant drew condemnation from UNRWA, UNICEF, and UN human rights officials who noted the pattern of families with young children being killed.
