IDF Strike Kills Khan Younis Criminal Police Chief Wessam Abdel-Hadi and Aide
An Israeli airstrike in the Al-Amal neighborhood of Khan Younis on May 10, 2026 killed Wessam Abdel-Hadi — head of the criminal police force in Khan Younis — and his aide. Gaza's Hamas-run Interior Ministry confirmed the identities of the victims, describing the strike as 'deliberately seeking to spread chaos in Gaza and exacerbate humanitarian suffering' and as a violation of international law targeting a civil protection body. The killing is part of a sustained Israeli campaign against Hamas-run police and governance structures in Gaza during the October 2025 ceasefire period. Mourner Ali Mousa stated: 'Although the ceasefire came into effect several months ago, the occupation continues to target the police officers to cause chaos.' The strike brought the cumulative Palestinian death toll since the October 10, 2025 ceasefire to approximately 873+. The Israeli military did not immediately comment. Reuters correspondent Ramadan Abed documented the aftermath in Khan Younis, photographing the mangled wreckage of the vehicle in which Abdel-Hadi was traveling.
