Iranian Commercial Vessel Struck Near Hengam Island in Strait of Hormuz, One Killed

| Iran Conflict

An Iranian commercial cargo vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile near Hengam Island in the Strait of Hormuz at around 5:00am local time Sunday. Iran's state news agency IRNA named the seafarer killed as Jamshid Rajabi, one of the vessel's 10-member crew; four others were wounded. A fire broke out aboard and local authorities assisted with evacuation. The governor of Qeshm blamed a 'terrorist enemy' but said neither the projectile type nor those responsible had been identified. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed a vessel transiting the strait was hit and caught fire, without identifying the attacker.
