Iran to Hold First Gulf Talks Since War Began — Foreign Ministers to Meet in Oman Monday Over Strait of Hormuz

| Iran Conflict

Iran's Foreign Ministry announced Friday that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will meet Gulf Cooperation Council counterparts and Iraq in Salalah, Oman on Monday, Sept 14, to discuss management of the Strait of Hormuz — the first such gathering between Iran and Gulf Arab states since the war began Feb 28. Oman, which has brokered prior Iran-Gulf de-escalation steps including the Aug 26 temporary joint navigation corridor, said the talks are 'intended to promote better understanding among the countries of the region and help strengthen shared regional security.' Iran currently requires vessels to obtain permits to transit the strait and has floated a service-fee mechanism; the waterway normally carries about one-fifth of global oil supply.
