Iran-Oman Hormuz Accord Status Disputed Internally as Trump Says US 'Not in a Hurry' to Resume Talks

A day after IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi said Iran and Oman had reached agreement on their respective shares of Strait of Hormuz waters and revenues ('we have been in negotiations with Oman for about a month, and we have reached results that are acceptable to both sides'), a senior Iranian official told Reuters the accord 'has not been finalised' and that talks on the details were continuing — leaving unclear at what stage the reported agreement actually stands. Mohebbi added that 'if the United States stops obstructing and returns to the agreement, we can open the Strait within the framework,' reiterating Iran's conditions of ending the naval blockade, compensation, and sanctions relief. Separately, President Trump told Al Jazeera on Aug 26 he has 'no time schedule, none — I'm not in a hurry' for Iran to return to talks, claiming 'we are winning very big' and that both economic pressure and military strikes have been 'effective.' Outgoing White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reiterated Thursday morning that 'no negotiations are happening right now, and this will continue until the president feels that maybe they come to the table in a meaningful way,' adding Iran is 'in a devastating place. Inflation is over 100%. They can't pay their police,' while calling the naval blockade 'hugely successful.'
