IRGC Fires on Indian-Flagged Tankers in Hormuz; India Summons Iran Ambassador
Iranian IRGC gunboats fired on Indian-flagged crude oil tankers attempting transit of the Strait of Hormuz on April 18–19, forcing the vessels to reverse course. India summoned Iran's ambassador in protest. The IRGC issued a formal warning that 'approaching the Strait of Hormuz will be considered cooperation with the enemy, and the violating vessel will be targeted.' Trump cited the shootings on April 19 as a 'serious violation' and a 'total violation of our ceasefire agreement,' using the incidents to justify his infrastructure destruction ultimatum. At least two Indian-flagged tankers were turned back at gunpoint. The IRGC maintained a declared closure of the strait, with all non-IRGC-authorized vessels refused passage.
