Former Iranian Foreign Minister and senior diplomat Kamal Kharazi was seriously wounded when a strike hit his home in Tehran on April 1. His wife was killed in the attack. Kharazi had been serving as a key back-channel contact between Iran and Pakistan's facilitation team — his injury severely disrupted the Pakistan-mediated diplomatic track that had been the primary conduit for US-Iran communications. Iranian officials condemned the strike as a deliberate attempt to destroy diplomacy. Kharazi, who served as FM under Khatami (1997–2005), has remained an influential informal advisor and was among the senior figures managing indirect US-Iran contact.
