IAEA Board of Governors Convenes Emergency Session on Iran Nuclear Facility Strikes
The IAEA Board of Governors convened an emergency session to assess the status of Iran's nuclear facilities following four weeks of US-Israeli strikes. The session addressed strikes on Natanz, Fordow, Arak heavy water complex, the Yazd/Ardakan yellowcake plant, and the Bushehr nuclear power plant (struck March 24). IAEA Director-General Grossi called the Bushehr strike 'the reddest line' of nuclear safety. Rosatom warned the situation was 'deteriorating,' with ~480 Russian nationals on site and evacuations being prepared. Gulf cities within 175–373 miles of Bushehr — Kuwait City, Manama, Doha, Dubai — faced potential radiological exposure risk. Iran's UN ambassador reiterated the attacks constitute 'a war crime and a crime against humanity.' Iranian hardline lawmakers continued pushing NPT withdrawal legislation.
