BJP Wins West Bengal for First Time in Party's 46-Year History
The Bharatiya Janata Party secured 206 of 294 assembly seats in West Bengal state elections, making history as the first time in BJP's existence it has won the state. The landslide victory ended Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) after 15 years in power. PM Modi called it the most consequential state election win since 2014. Analysts attributed the result to nationalist sentiment following the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, anti-incumbency against TMC, and sustained ground-level BJP organization over a decade. Mamata Banerjee conceded defeat.
