ICE Discloses 16,368 Removals from San Diego Region in First 71 Days of Trump Second Term — Largest Groups: Mexico (10,847), Guatemala (996), Venezuela (544)
ICE disclosed to Rep. Mike Levin (D-Oceanside) on May 7, 2026 that 16,368 people were removed from the San Diego region between January 20 and April 1, 2026 — the first 71 days of the Trump second term. KPBS and NBC San Diego reported the figures, broken down by country: Mexico (10,847 removals, 66%), Guatemala (996), Venezuela (544), Honduras (502), El Salvador (461), India (330), Philippines (267), and 2,421 from other countries. Rep. Levin had requested the data as part of congressional oversight. ICE declined to provide data on how many of those removed had criminal records, whether judicial warrants were used, or what percentage were longtime residents with U.S. citizen family members. The San Diego region includes the San Ysidro Port of Entry — the busiest land border crossing in the Western Hemisphere — the Otay Mesa Detention Facility, and the San Diego ICE Field Office covering both Imperial and San Diego counties. The 16,368 figure in just 71 days reflects the broad enforcement acceleration under the Trump second term.
