Protesters Breach Portland ICE Facility Gate; Police Declare Riot After 'No Kings' March
Following the Portland 'No Kings' march at Tom McCall Waterfront Park on March 28, a subset of protesters moved to the ICE field office building in South Portland. Protesters broke through the front gate of the ICE facility. Federal agents pushed them back. Portland Police declared a riot and ordered all demonstrators to disperse. At approximately 9 p.m., 26-year-old Isiah Lee climbed onto the facility's roof and began vandalizing it; he was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree criminal trespass. Portland Police made three total arrests for criminal mischief and assault. Protesters burned an American flag and a Nazi flag outside the facility. An appeals court had recently reversed a ruling that had limited federal agents' use of tear gas outside the ICE facility, raising concerns among nearby residents about chemical munitions. Since June 2025, Portland police had made 89 total arrests in connection with ICE-related protest activity.
