Hungary Confirms It Met All 27 EU Super-Milestones Ahead of Deadline

Finance Minister András Kármán said Hungary completed all 27 EU 'super milestones' by the August 31 deadline set under the May 29 Magyar-von der Leyen deal, clearing the way to tap the full €10 billion Recovery and Resilience Facility tranche (€6.51B in grants, €3.49B in loans) plus €6.4 billion in cohesion funds — €16.4 billion in total previously frozen over rule-of-law and corruption concerns. Reforms included all four judicial-independence milestones, the June anti-corruption package, and creation of the National Asset Recovery and Protection Office (NVVH). Hungary must now submit formal payment requests by the end of September, with the European Commission expecting to complete disbursements by the end of December 2026. Officials cautioned the process is not automatic — the Commission still must verify each milestone before releasing funds.
