Hungary on Track to Meet EU Funds Reform Deadline
The European Commission said Hungary is on track to unlock roughly €10 billion in frozen Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) funds ahead of the August 31, 2026 deadline set under the May 29 deal between PM Péter Magyar and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Hungary has completed roughly two-thirds of the 27 required 'super-milestones' — including all 4 judicial-independence reforms, June's anti-corruption package, a new anti-corruption body, July's tax code amendments, energy-sector legislation, and initiating European Public Prosecutor's Office membership. Roughly 9 milestones remain, covering corruption/transparency measures and audit requirements. A Commission source said 'the process is going well; we have every chance that Hungary can fulfil all criteria on time,' with disbursement expected by autumn. Hungary's Ministry of Transport and Investment said 'we have already fulfilled two-thirds of our commitments, and the settlement of the remaining cases is in its final stage.'
