Two Additional Gripen Jets Delivered to Kecskemét — Hungary Strengthens NATO Air Posture

Two additional JAS 39C Gripen fighter jets arrived at Kecskemét Air Base on April 29, 2026, fulfilling a February 2024 order from Swedish manufacturer Saab. The delivery adds to Hungary's existing Gripen fleet and signals the new government's commitment to reinforcing NATO air defense capabilities. The aircraft were ordered under the Orbán government but their arrival under Magyar's transition is being read as a statement of NATO alignment. Hungary is preparing to display a new puma-themed Gripen livery at the NATO Tiger Meet 2026 exercise at Araxos Air Base in Greece (May 4–15).
