Iran and Oman Agree on Temporary Shipping Corridor Through Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced that Tehran and Muscat have agreed on a temporary maritime shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, roughly 7 miles (11.3 km) wide, with inbound traffic routed through a northern lane in Iranian territorial waters and outbound traffic through a southern lane in Omani waters coordinated with Iran. An IRGC spokesperson said the two countries had also reached agreement on each side's share of revenue from administering the corridor. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Omani counterpart Badr Albusaidi, meeting in Tehran, also discussed a joint project to clear mines from the waterway. Gharibabadi stressed the route is temporary only and that the strait remains officially closed until Washington fulfils commitments under the lapsed June interim peace deal, including sanctions relief; vessels will still require Iranian permission to transit. Precise coordinates, start date, and operational protocols remain unresolved.
