IOM ETT-92: 4,419 More People Displaced in Artibonite May 2–7, Amid Continuing Gran Grif Offensive
IOM's Emergency Tracking Tool Report 92 (ETT-92) documented a fresh wave of gang-related displacement in Petite-Rivière de l'Artibonite and Dessalines from May 2–7, 2026, encompassing approximately 4,419 individuals (1,166 households). The newly displaced took refuge predominantly in Dessalines (88%) and Saint-Marc (12%). This displacement event follows the earlier IOM ETT-88 tracking of the March 28–April 6 Gran Grif offensive that displaced over 13,500 people in the same area. The continuing Artibonite displacement reflects that Gran Grif and Viv Ansanm-affiliated gangs have not retreated from the territory seized during the March–April 2026 offensive, and are now consolidating control over Petite-Rivière and surrounding communities. The Artibonite region is the breadbasket of Haiti and its largest rice-producing zone; gang displacement of farming communities has cascading food security implications. The national IDP total now stands at approximately 1.46 million+ as of IOM's April 2026 tracking, making Haiti's the largest internal displacement crisis in the Western Hemisphere. Over half of all IDPs are children, many in precarious sites without adequate food, water, sanitation, or protection from gang recruitment.
