Dominican Republic Formally Commits $20 Million to UN Gang Suppression Force Trust Fund
In a formal diplomatic communication to the United Nations in New York, Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez officially confirmed the Dominican Republic's $20 million financial commitment to the UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund supporting the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in Haiti. The contribution is structured over two fiscal years: $10 million in 2026 and $10 million in 2027. The Dominican Republic's pledge is notable given the DR's historically complex relationship with Haiti — including a 2023 border wall construction, ongoing deportation tensions, and repeated border closures — and reflects the DR's growing recognition that Haitian instability directly threatens regional security and Dominican economic interests. The DR commitment adds to the over $220 million pledged from 13+ states as reported at the April 23, 2026 UN Security Council briefing, with $59 million disbursed to date. Qatar had separately pledged $30 million. The GSF currently has approximately 545 advance troops deployed in Port-au-Prince (400 Chadian, 75 Guatemalan, 70 Salvadoran) following Kenya's final MSS officer departure on April 28, 2026. National pledges for the full 5,500-authorized-ceiling force now exceed the ceiling, with full operational capacity expected by fall–end 2026.
